New Battle Beast is Absolutely Stunning

Battle Beast’s new album Steelbound comes out in October. It is their 7th studio album, and it seems these Finnish Heavy Metal masters keep getting better and better. This band never ceases to amaze me. Their soaring melodies, chugging heavy riffs, and epic synths and orchestrations are mindbogglingly good. This band’s music hearkens back to the 70s and 80s where good ol Heavy Metal had catchier lines and riffs than any other genre on the planet. Singer Noora Louhimo’s stunning range has no limits it seems, switching between impossibly high Power Metal screams and soft Ann Wilson style storytelling, she may be the most underrated vocalist of our time.

The three new singles from Battle Beast’s Steelbound, the title track, “Here We Are”, and “Last Goodbye” are three of the best Metal tracks I have heard this year. They are catchy, moving, energetic, powerful, and extremely well written. “Here We Are” is part 80s dance track, part Pat Benatar, and part Rhapsody of Fire. “Last Goodbye” is as if ABBA, Judas Priest, Europe, and Dimebag Darrel had a love-child. It’s fist pumping like Sabaton, a battle track to get you through a workout or rush hour traffic. “Steelbound” is a harmonic delight straight from the 1980s. Man, I am loving the throwback sounds that bands like Battle Beast are bringing back. The vocals on this send insane chills up my neck. The vocals have so much tone without a ton of production. It’s so refreshing after hearing bands like Sleep Token, Bad Omens, and Falling in Reverse that are so over produced, it is grating to my ears. Stop listening to the Radio, stop watching the charts, and listen to Battle Beast. This band is one of the greatest bands of the past two decades, in my opinion. I cannot wait to hear what else they do with Steelbound.

With more than two decades performing together, acclaimed rockers ALTER BRIDGE show no signs of slowing down. Known for their memorable riffs, infectious vocal melodies and dueling guitar attack, the quartet comprised of Myles Kennedy on vocals/guitars, Mark Tremonti on guitars/vocals, Brian Marshall on bass and Scott Phillips on drums have garnered themselves massive critical and fan acclaim around the globe. The band looks to continue that trend when they release their self-titled, eighth studio album next year via Napalm Records. Alter Bridge will be released on January 9, 2026, and first physical formats are now available for pre-order.

Alter Bridge is comprised of 12 all new tracks from the band and features some of their most iconic moments on record. Songs like “Rue The Day,” “Disregarded” and “Scales Are Falling” will fit alongside any of the classic songs from ALTER BRIDGE’s catalog. “Trust In Me” shows Myles and Mark sharing vocal duties as Myles handles the verse duties while Mark takes the chorus. That strategy is flipped on “Tested And Able” as Mark handles the verses and Myles takes on the choruses behind one of the band’s heaviest intros to date, giving way to an unforgettable melody. “Hang By A Thread” is sure to become a show favorite as it hints at some of the most popular songs in the band’s catalog. Album closer “Slave To Master” is an epic track that ALTER BRIDGE has come to be known for and is the longest song the quartet has recorded to date.

The band worked with longtime collaborator and producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette on their eighth album. Alter Bridge was recorded over the course of two months this spring in the legendary 5150 studio in California and Elvis’ recording studio in Florida.

ALTER BRIDGE will be reuniting for one show in 2025. The band will be doing a rare acoustic show on October 1 in Nashville, TN to support the Tremonti Family Charity Golf Outing. The outing is a benefit started by guitarist Mark Tremonti to support the National Down Syndrome Society – an organization close to Mark after his daughter Stella was born with Down syndrome. The event will raise money for NDSS – an organization that engages grassroots advocates at the federal, state, and local levels and creates resources to support individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and caregivers across the lifespan on topics including education, employment, health and wellness, and aging. Swiss heavy metal powerhouse BURNING WITCHES have announced their new studio album, Inquisition, out August 22, 2025 via Napalm Records! On their sixth studio album, the band returns with a darker, more thunderous brew — diving headfirst into the themes of medieval persecution, religious oppression, and the unbreakable spirit of resistance. Featuring 12 brand-new tracks, the album marks a bold new era: forged in the flames of power/heavy metal, sharpened by anthemic songwriting and epic instrumentation.

The band commented on the new album: “It is the result of two years of work, and we are very excited to show the world how much Malvada has grown. You will have a real experience”.About the new single, they added: “It is a song that reflects our reality, being in music means that sometimes we have to be away from people we love. It is a song we made for them. And it is very emotional for us”.The rising star of the Brazilian rock scene has a name: Malvada, and they are ready to take over the world!

Malvada was initially formed in March 2020, during the beginning of the pandemic. With a rock n’ roll style full of personality, the band quickly attracted attention as one of the most promising acts in the Brazilian rock scene.

In January 2021, Malvada released their first single entitled “Mais Um Gole”, which gained greater prominence in the scene. Shortly afterwards, in May of the same year, it was time to release the second single “Cada Escolha uma Renúncia”, which preceded the launch of the band’s debut album, “A Noite Vai Ferver”. 

In the years 2022 and 2023, Malvada solidified its presence on the national rock panorama, performing more than a hundred shows in several cities in Brazil. The band had the privilege of participating in huge festivals, such as Rock in Rio, Best of Blues and Rock, Angra Fest and Chama Rock, sharing the stage with renowned national and international rock names, like Pitty, Ira!, Angra, Viper, Edu Falaschi, Matanza, Golpe de Estado, Extreme and Tom Morello.

In November 2023, Malvada, composed of Indira Castillo, Bruna Tsuruda, Rafaela Reoli and Juliana Salgado surprised with a big announcement: the band has become the newest signee of the prestigious Italian label Frontiers Records, which has renowned bands in its catalog such as Mr. Big, Asia, Whitesnake, Jeff Scott Soto, among others, promising to take them to a new level, with opportunities to expand their reach and conquer the global market.

The new album, produced by the Brazilian Grammy awarded producer Giu Daga, promises a powerful and exciting musical experience and will be the band’s first work featuring tracks in English/Portuguese, aiming to conquer a global audience.Malvada’s vibrant rock passion will take no prisoners!

New Heavy Music Report 5/8/25

This week has been one of the busiest weeks in music releases in a long time. It’s been a whirlwind of some of the heaviest music and diverse songs. It is hard to keep up as usual. Below are some of my favorites of the week and some you might have missed.

What has everyone been listening to lately? I have been catching up on thirty years of Death Metal, studying up on my Women’s Music history, and listening to new albums from Messa, Kardashev, and Eluveitie. Let me know what I should check out next.

Following the critically acclaimed release of their apocalyptic concept album Kob’ (2023), pagan folk metal visionaries ARKONA return with a mesmerizing new single, “Cectpa” (English: Sister). Unveiling a darker, more introspective side, the track conjures a haunting atmosphere through solemn organ melodies, doom-tinged riffs, and the ethereal voice of frontwoman Masha Scream. Accompanied by an official music video, “Cectpa” weaves an emotional tale of inner grief and spiritual reckoning, continuing ARKONA’s tradition of blending folkloric mysticism with metal’s raw intensity.

After a successful 2023 that included a tour with labelmates Patriarkh (ex-Batushka) and a well-received appearance at Summer Breeze Open Air in 2024, ARKONA now set out on their Summer Rituals tour across Europe. From intimate venues to major festival stages, the band continues to bring their intense blend of Slavic pagan tradition, blackened metal, and theatrical performance to devoted audiences. With over two decades of evolution behind them, ARKONA remain a commanding force—fierce, emotional, and spiritually resonant.

ARKONA about the new single “Cectpa”:
“The song ‘Cectpa’ (Sister) is a non-album single, which was spontaneously written by Maria specifically for the student who is learning vocal skills from her.
Conceptually, the song tells about the deep mental anguish of a person who is on the verge of going into oblivion with the help of fire, which is eating away at the exhausted body from the inside. Sestra is the anguish which acts as a twin sister, the personification of her own internal mental suffering, and the heroine of the song has a dialogue with her, and ultimately says goodbye to her when death finally captures the heroine in its arms.       
  
The single cover artwork, created by the artists Rotten Fantom, fully reflects the concept of the song, visualizing its content in dark philosophical tones.

The musical accompaniment is extraordinarily doom metal, closely echoing the melodic line and folk choral voices of traditional Arkona. It’s recommended for those who loved the songs such as ‘Strela’, ‘Oh, Pechal’-Toska’, ‘Zimushka’.”
