Slipknot Frontman Talks New Members’ Masks and The Gray Chapter

Slipknot legendary front man Corey Taylor recently sat down with Full Metal Jackie for a in depth interview about Slipknot’s new album and the new members.  Everyone is curious about the drummer and bassist that will be sit ins for the late Paul Gray and departed drummer Joey Jordison,  Slipknot continues to be cryptic and quiet about the new members and what went down during recording, but he does talk about the masks

“We wanted to make something that still looked unified but still stayed with the spirit of what the band is all about,” Corey said. “Instead of trying to find something that was individualistic, we designed — well, [percussionist] Clown designed a mask that the drummer and the bass player will both wear. On one hand, they get a mask, but at the same time, it’s not the individual mask that we in the band use. We knew that any attempt to do anything like that might be taken as disrespectful, but at the same time it’s part of the way of moving, getting past the hardest steps, which is just moving on. So, we decided that we would come up with a mask that works for both the bassist and the drummer and that’s what they’ll wear on stage.””

Not too much information, but a good look at how Slipknot is dealing with the new members.

The full statement from the band is below;

“We are excited and gearing up for The Parks and Devastation Tour that starts on Thursday, September 4th with A Day To Remember, Bring Me The Horizon, and Motionless And White. Before we hit the road we have some both exciting and unfortunate news.

“Derrick Frost and Matt Goddard have both chosen to discontinue touring and recording but instead spend more time with their loved ones and pursue other interests at home. It’s been a long and great journey with both of these gentleman, Matt dating back to the very beginning, and Derrick a part of three albums with us. We wish them the best in all that they choose to do moving forward. They’ve been long time brothers to us and always will be.

“Our good friends Thomas Pridgen and Joe Troy are coming to rock with us. We have been rehearsing like crazy in Michigan so get ready for a great show. We’re very excited to have them join us on this journey as we’ve always been fans of their musicianship. We can’t wait for you all to experience this with us as we continue to tour and write new material. See you at a city near you soon!”

“IV: One With The Storm” the fourth album from the Finnish melodic death metal band will be released November 7th (EU) and November 11th (North America).   The new album is everything we love about Ghost Brigade, twisted up and amplified and blackened to perfection.  It shall be even better than the previous three, because of a fresh record label (Sumerian Records) and a new guitarist.  I am really excited for this album.

Crimson Shadows Release New Melodic Death Metal Album

crimson_group_sky_web

Crimson Shadows, the power metal/death metal group from Toronto, have made a huge coming this year with their new album, Kings Among Men.  The band has your typical melodeath sound, as well as some Hamerfall and Dragon Force influences.  Those influences are especially heard on this new album.  Chugging and squealing speed metal riffs, double bass drums, throaty growling, finger picked bass lines, and the occasional melodic clean singing are characteristics of Crimson Shadows.  Everything you love about this type of music is magnified at a tolerable and pleasing level on Kings Among Men.  I highly suggest it for something unique and epic to listen to.

Overall Rating- 7/10
